The Executive Secretary of Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr Mansur Nagoda has approved the suspension and sacking of some staff of Kabo General Hospital with immediate effect after conducting an unscheduled supervision visit to the facility.

The facility which was visited by the Executive Secretary of HMB; the Directior General (DG), Kano Centre for Disease Control Dr. Muhammad Abbas and the DG of the State Agency for the Control of Aids, Dr. Usman Bashir.

They expressed dissatisfaction with what they met on the ground, describing it as an act of sabotage.

This was contained in a statement issued by the spokesperson, Hospitals Management Board, Samira Suleiman on Sunday.

Dr Nagoda explained that three officers of the X-ray units were caught charging patients N12,000 for X-rays against the approved hospital price of 2,000 and no documents to show as evidence of payment, leaving the facility to carry out less than 10 X-rays per week despite the fact that the two X-ray batteries were functional.

He then approved the immediate dismissal of the three officers on grounds of extortion of patients.

Also, the executive secretary approved the suspension of the accountant, auditor and head of laboratory for selling free HIV test kits given to facilities by the state government and were asked to report to the board headquarters for further disciplinary actions.

“Furthermore, Dr Nagoda explained that the  Labour ward was not in good condition, had no bed sheets on the beds, absence of compound officer, dumped equipment which were donated 4 years ago, as well as dumped COVID-19 items donated to the facility.

“He vowed that no one would be spared if caught. This decision we took should serve as a deterrent to others. We took an oath so we will stick to that oath and sanitise the health system.

“Dr Nagoda added that it is sad that after the state government made sure that each and every health staff is on CONHESS salary scale, they are still exploiting innocent patients,” the statement added.
