Stakeholders and experts in aviation, maritime and road transportation sectors will converge in Abuja on Thursday to proffer solutions to the challenges of deficit in transportation infrastructure in Nigeria.

The event, which is the 2nd Annual seminar of the Abuja Transport and Aviation Correspondents Association (ATACA), was organized in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transportation.

A statement by the organisers on Tuesday noted that the Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Chibuike Ameachi will deliver the keynote address on the theme “Fi and developing transport infrastructure in Nigeria: opportunities and threats.”

Also, the Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika is expected to deliver a paper on the topic: “The National Carrier and the Opportunities’’.

The organisers said the event billed to hold at the International Conference Centre, Abuja will also feature presentations from other key stakeholders.

It added that the acting Director-General of ICRC, Engr. Chidi Izuwah, will be the Chairman of the event.

“Infrastructure challenge has been a major setback in the quest to develop an enduring transport industry in Nigeria especially land and air transport sectors as being canvassed by stakeholders at different fora.

“The seminar is part of the efforts of transport and aviation journalists in Abuja to create avenue for stakeholders to discuss strategies towards repositioning the country’s transportation industry as a catalyst for sustainable economic development.

“The event will also witness presentations from the Executive Secretaray, Nigerian Shippers Council, the MD/CEO Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the Nigeria College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) Zaria, the Rector, Maritime Acdemy of Nigeria (MAN), the MD, Nigerian Ports Authority  (NPA), the MD, Nigerian Railways Corporation (NRC) and other industry  leaders.

Also expected at the seminar is the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatude Fashola (SAN) who will speak on the topic: “Toll Gate as a tool for financing road infrastructure in Nigeria.”

Also expected are the Chief Executives of all agencies and parastatals under the Ministry of Transportation; Airline Executives, Road transport executives and transport unions.

It will be recalled that ATACA is an umbrella body of the Transport and Aviation journalists, based in Abuja, with its membership drawn from mainstream media houses including print, electronic national and some online news platforms.
