The experts who gathered at a Community Pharmacists Consumers Continuous Education Workshop in Lagos opined that ED is one of the major social problems causing significant distress in men, laying emphasis on poor erection, poor stamina and energy, poor libido, poor mental alertness and low sperm count.

Erectile dysfunction they explained is a chronic vascular disorder whose global prevalence estimates range from 10 to 40%.
Currently, study has shown that one in every four Nigerian couples has fertility problem related case which is associated with negative psychosocial consequences for individuals, couples and families.
Apart from erectile dysfunction resulting in infertility in men, poor sexual performance is major factor today causing extra marital affairs which has led to diminishing societal values when married men and women could go any mile to satisfy their sexual desires.
Thus the need to address ED as a societal problem becomes necessary as people find a way of boosting their sexual ability such that they are able to keep their marriage.
Series of medications are being used by people to address this problem including local treatments of all sorts but one of such products available in Nigeria to correct ED is Adam’s Desire from Nature’s Field brand, a herbal supplement determined for the treatment of ED, improvement of sperm count and associated quality of life.
A recent research was carried out at the General out patients’ clinic of the Department of Family Medicine, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) to the evaluation the efficacy, satisfaction and tolerability of Adam’s Desire.
The study showed that the product is safe and effective for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and improvement in semen quality/sperm count but it was recommended as one capsule daily and a minimum of eight weeks usage is encouraged for better results.
Commenting on the study, the Director, Clinical Services of LASUTH, Dr. Ayoade Adedokun, said the ultimate goal was to make Nigerians realise that they could access good medications locally, instead of embarking on medical tourism where they are also presented with the same drugs but at higher cost.
The Managing Director of Sylken Limited, Pharmacist Uche Nwana in his speech disclosed that the flagship of the available supplements in the country were Adam’s Desire, a herbal supplement for men; and Eve’s Desire, which he said regulates the hormones in ageing women.
