Stakeholders in Nigeria’s development sector have canvassed the scaling up of human capital development to advance economic growth.
They made the call yesterday at a webinar and dissemination workshop with the theme “Human Capital Development in Africa: Country Case Study – Nigeria,” organised by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), in collaboration with the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC).
Chief Economist and Director of Research at the NESG, Dr Olusegun Omisakin, noted that the event was organised to boost human capital development and provide policy recommendations for governments at the national, state and local levels.
Omisakin highlighted “That human capital development is a crucial indicator of a country’s progress, as it influences economic growth, employment opportunities, and skills development as Nigeria has experienced fluctuations in growth, including periods of recession, which underscore the need to improve human capital development indicators.
Lead Manager, Training, African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Dr. Tom Kimani, explained that the AERC has explored ways, which Nigeria can boost its human capacity growth, highlighting empowerment of businesses at federal and subnational levels as well as building capacity of young researchers.
