Experts advocate technology solutions to battle flood disaster

Experts have canvassed for technological solutions to combat flood disasters ravaging the country due to the rise of climate change.

They gave this advice during the Youth Led Climate- Tech Exhibition organised by ActionAid Nigeria.

Harping on the imminent risks associated with climate change, environmental expert, Desmond Majekodunmi, urged the youths to drive technological solutions to reduce the threats posed by climate change.

“You are the change makers. It is upon you to dedicate yourselves to the necessary change so that this earth does not go into extinction.

“The climate change crisis in Nigeria, including flooding, heat waves, and food insecurity, necessitate innovative solutions that address environmental challenges.

“Climate technologies that help us reduce greenhouse gas emissions include renewable energies like gas,” he said.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO), Nigeria Climate Innovation Centre (NCIC), Mr. Adamu Garba, added that climate change is a global problem, saying it demands urgent attention to address it.

“The youths are instrumental in creating the future with youthful drive and innovation and passion fighting and advocating for global problems like climate change,” he said.

The programme director, Governance ActionAid, Blessing Ifemenam, said the climate tech exhibition was designed to explore various technological means to resolve dangers posed by climate change.

“We aim to identify the challenges and needs of various climate initiatives led by young people and women across Nigeria. Our goal is to discuss ways to secure funding, scale these initiatives, and ensure access to the necessary financial resources and investment,” she said.

The convener, CEO, Inspired Youth Network, Ayomikun Olugbode, added that the exhibition was a strategic effort designed to address urgent environmental challenges, drive economic growth, and promote sustainable development.

“The issue about climate is one of the biggest issues around the world. We look at solutions to collaborate and identify sustainable solutions to the issues around climate change in Nigeria,” he said.
