The team lead of Software/Web Development at the Lagos State Ministry of Science and Technology, Mr Wasiu Jimoh, has emphasised the need for the State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) to deploy technology in all areas of its operations to improve water transportation system and impact positively on the economy of the state.
Jimoh, during LAGFERRY’s management retreat, themed: “Innovative Water Transportation for a 21st Century Economy”, which was held at the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, tasked the management of LAGFERRY to ensure the deployment and application of the latest technologies.

He stressed the need to take an inventory of the existing technology deployment and work towards innovating new ideas to enhance service delivery in the sector of the economy.
According to him, an improved water transportation system using the latest technologies would impact positively on the economy of the state.
Outlining the key areas that would enhance the performance of LAGFERRY, Jimoh suggested the introduction of a fully-automated ticketing system using the best payment solution, acquisition of ferries that are energy-efficient and monitored in real-time, a very efficient safety and rescue system employing the use of CCTVs, drones and unmanned water robots, among others.
