Execujet, Caverton not affected in demolition of MMIA hangars – Operator

Chairman and CEO of Quits Aviation Services Limited, Dr Sam Iwuajoku, confirmed that Executive Maintenance and Repair Organisation (MRO), Execujet and Caverton Helicopters are not part of the facilities listed for demolition by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to create way for the new terminal at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

He disclosed this even as findings revealed that FAAN had commenced talks with the affected companies to look for a suitable location for their facilities.

Daily Trust reports that the authority is planning to demolish some facilities to create a jet way for the new terminal which completion has been stalled as a result of the delay.

Some of the affected firms had raised an alarm warning that N20bn investment is at risk over the planned demolition.

However, Iwuajoku told newsmen Execujet and Caverton were not in any way obstructing the access to the new terminal.

He said, “The new terminal has nothing to do with Execujet, the safety envelope area where planes can move into the place is by Evergreen and Domino. These are the two areas blocking the entrance to the jet way of the new terminal. It does not affect Caverton and Execujets,” Iwuajoku said.

The hangars that would be affected, it was learnt, are Evergreen and Domino and the Lagos Regional Office of Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB).

“Arrangement is on to provide befitting replacements for the affected organisations by the appropriate authorities and this would be settled in no distant time,” an informed source said.

Another official told our correspondent that the terminal would have since been completed if not for the obstruction.

“The airport facility is ready from all indications but it is not being put to use because of the hangars but you cannot blame the hangar owners for this. This is a problem that was detected in the course of the construction because FAAN engineers were not part of the design. The terminal was obviously located at the wrong side of the airport.”
