The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has warned students of the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCFMT) in Lagos against taking drugs before studying or writing examinations.

An official of the agency, Mrs. Juliana Ugwu, who stated this at the 2021 fresh students’ orientation programme at FCFMT, explained that the human body was created to function at different levels with different capacities.

She said whatever hormone the human being needs to function has been put in the body system.

She said most people engaged in the use of drugs to achieve a purpose and what happened at the end of the day was that they would not be able to achieve their goals because their personalities had been destroyed by drugs.

While noting that it is dangerous to take substances to study or read for exams, Mrs. Ugwu said students who engaged in such substance use would eventually lose their mind whether they passed the exams or not.

“So, what do they benefit from what leads to the destruction of their personality even though they had used it to achieve their want in the past,” she queried;

The Deputy Provost of the College, Enaikele Muhammed said: “We brought in people to talk about salient issues that concern the youth. We have taken the orientation seriously because we know that all the given topics are the trending issues among the youths.”

While noting that they read on social media how students committed suicide and how some were being sexually abused by their colleagues, he said, “We want to see the students as adjustable products of the larger society, we don’t want them to go out as half-baked products.”
