A former speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole has charged Nigerian youths to dare and take leadership positions asnobody was ready to willingly relinquish them.
Bankole gave the charge while addressing youths under the aegis of Young Africans MBAs (YAM) in Lagos, stressing that except Nigerian youths go all out to claimpower, securing it may continue to be a mirage.
“I think the younger generation should realise that nobody is going togive them power. Never! Nobody gives power to you. You have to takeit,” the former speaker said. You need to study the system, then also look at how you can participate and you should participate and bring about the desired change starting from your respective communities, states and thenNigeria. That is the good way to go about it,” Bankole said.
He advised youths who want toparticipate in societal re-engineering to develop the habit ofleaving their comfort zones and getting their hands dirty. “You can’t be staying in Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki or Ikeja and say you are going to change anything. The truth is that those areas are not the true replica of our country. What many recollect is that I became a speaker at 37,” Bankole stated.
