Maurice Cooreman, a former coach with different Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) teams, has died.
The late coach, who managed clubs in Nigeria’s domestic league such as Akwa United, Enyimba, Ocean Boys, Warri Wolves, and Gombe United, died at the age of 79 in his home country, Belgium.

Cooreman led the former Ocean Boys to the Nigerian title in 2006, but was fired two weeks later and then reemployed.
He was the manager of Enyimba from October 2006 to November 2008. He was banned for five games in April 2008 after punching a referee.
In November 2008, he was appointed manager of Asante Kotoko in Ghana’s Premier League. Cooreman had previously managed the NPA, Bendel Insurance, Lobi Stars, Gabros and Kaduna United in Nigeria.
Cooreman agreed to continue with Kaduna United for another year on August 30, 2010, after leading the team to a historic Federation Cup victory for the state for the first time.
He was named Warri Wolves’ new head coach on February 20, 2012. In October 2012, he signed a one-year contract with Gombe United and resigned in 2014.
He was appointed coach of second-tier Ikorodu United in March 2015.
