Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Barrister Olumide Akpata, has emerged candidate of Labour Party for the September 21, 2024 governorship election.
Akpata polled 316 votes to defeat other aspirants during the party’s primary election in Benin City, the state capital, on Friday.
Aspirants such as Barr. Kenneth Imansuangbon scored seven votes, Professor Sunday Eromosele. seven votes, while Sergius Ogun got four votes.
The chief returning officer of the election and Deputy Governor of Abia state, Engr. Emechulu Ikecbukwu, said the party represents truth, hard work and transparency.

While commending the aspirants for showing the spirit of sportsmanship, he encouraged Akpata to carry others along.
In his acceptance speech, Akpata pledged good governance if elected governor.
