A former chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Jibril Ayinla, has decried the strike embarked upon on January 26 by teachers of in public primary schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Ayinla, who was responding to questions from journalists during the graduation ceremony of Nurul Yaqeen Islamic Foundation on Saturday, in Abuja, said provision of education should be considered as one of the government’s essential services.

While calling on the FCT administration to intervene against future occurrence, the ex-naval chief, said “education is the only legacy that could be given to a child and endure forever, as once you are educated, no one can steal it from you.’’
Earlier in his remarks, the director of the foundation, Imam Yahya Alyolawi, who commended parents and teachers of the graduating students, said the foundation would continue to give its support to education and various vocational training in its empowerment programmes.
The chairman of the FCT Imam Forum, Sheikh Tajuddeen Bello, who was guest speaker at the event, emphasised on parents’ responsibility of providing good moral values to their children.
