A former lawmaker has been arraigned before a magistrate’s court in Wuse Zone 2 for allegedly presenting a fake cheque to his landlord.
The lawmaker, identified as Nnadi, was said to have committed an offence contrary sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The prosecutor, A.O. Urom, informed the court that on October 14, 2015, one Callistus Ewulu, petitioned the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, that the accused who is his tenant refused to pay his overdue rent, and instead on May 3, 2012 with the intension to cheat, deceitfully issued to him a UBA post-dated cheque with serial number 15326206 dated 31st of May, 2012 for the sum of N1.6 million.
He further informed the court that when the cheque was presented at the bank, it was dishonoured.
“In the course of police investigation, it was discovered that the accused criminally issued the said cheque, knowing fully that it will be dishonoured as there was no sufficient funds in his account.”
When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty and sought for bail.
Magistrate Ahmed Shaibu granted the accused bail in the sum of N2million and one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to August 17, for hearing.
