A former Military Administrator of Lagos and Imo States, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (rtd) has died.

The cause of his death could not be ascertained but it was gathered that he died at a Lagos hospital after a brief illness. He was 77.

Late Kanu was appointed military governor of Imo State in March 1976 during the military regime of General Olusegun Obasanjo. He was the first governor after the decree that established the state from part of the old East Central State.

He also served as military governor of Lagos in 1977, leaving office in July 1978. After retirement, he became part of the defunct National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), an advocacy group calling for the return of democracy to Nigeria.

In a related development, a Nigerian socialite and billionaire businessman, Aare Boluwatife Akin-Olugbade is dead.

It was gathered that Akin-Olugbade died yesterday of COVID-19 complications at an Isolation centre in Lagos. He was 64. The deceased, who hailed from Owu in Abeokuta, Ogun State, was in the news recently when he took delivery of his 10th Rolls Royce to open the new palace he built in Abeokuta.

Sources close to the deceased’s family said that the late billionaire fell ill after attending a wedding ceremony in December, 2020, where he served as Chairman of the occasion.
