Ex-Inter Allies of Ghana striker, Utim, attracts Rivers Utd’s attention

The match was arranged as a test for Rivers United who are preparing to take on Young Africans

A former Inter-Allies of Ghana striker, Godfrey Utim has caught the attention of Rivers United following his impressive showing against them in a recent friendly match.

The player of Makurdi based Galaxy Sports Academy is said to have shone like a million stars in the recent friendly match played in Port-Harcourt.

The match was arranged as a test for Rivers United who are preparing to take on Young Africans of Tanzania in the preliminary round of the Champions League.

Although the youngsters fell 0-2 to their more experienced opponents, Utim was one of the players that gave Rivers United defenders a run for their money.

The Founder of Galaxy Sports Academy, Austin Akpehe told Daily Trust that the technical adviser of Rivers United, Stanely Eguma enquired about the striker after the highly entertaining encounter.

“Godfrey justified his rating as one of our best players. He was unstoppable against Rivers United. He was a handful for the experienced defenders. After the match, Eguma applauded him.

“If he decides to add the power striker to his offensive side, the coming season might turn out to be a huge success for Rivers United,” said Akpehe.

The former Asante Kotoko of Ghana and Paris FC of France player disclosed that some European clubs are also monitoring the youngster.

“He was on his way to China for a professional career but first he suffered an injury and then COVID-19 came in to deny him the opportunity,” he said.
