An ex-convict, Idowu Salami and his friend, Opeyemi Popoola, were on Monday arraigned at a magistrate’s court in Osogbo, Osun State, for allegedly stealing underwear at a shop near Oja-Oba Market in Osogbo.
The prosecutor, Razaq Olayiwola, told the court that the suspects stole the underwear at the shop of one Francis Ezewere.

Olayiwola said the shop owner reported the matter at the Oja-Oba Police Station and during an attempt to arrest the suspects, they assaulted policemen and also threatened to kill the officer in charge of the Oja-Oba station, Adewale Adeleke.
The prosecutor said the offence committed by the accused persons was contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 390(9), 356(5), 86(1), and 451 of the Criminal Code, and Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty and their lawyer, Kehinde Adepoju, urged the court to grant them bail.
In his ruling, Magistrate Asimiyu Adebayo released the accused persons on bail and adjourned the case till September 8, 2021.
