Ex-APC presidential aspirant allegedly involved in illegal demolition of paint factory

A former presidential aspirant of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), Barrister Uju Ken Ohanenye, has been alleged to have caused the demolition of a paint manufacturing plant in Enugu State in violation of pending court orders.

Chukwuma-Machukwu-Ume (SAN), counsel to Legacy Paints, whose premises at Plot M4 Cattle Lairage, in Emene, Enugu State was on December 22 pulled down by thugs believed to be working for Ohanenye, has petitioned the APC and relevant authorities over the matter.

In a letter dated December 23, 2022, and addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and the party’s presidential candidate, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, also pleaded with the Nigeria Police to arrest the perpetrators of the demolition.

Machukwu-Ume said Legacy Paints was granted certificate of occupancy on the land in Enugu State to construct the ultra-modern chemical industry in line with federal government policy to boost the country’s industrial sector.

“The factory (with over 70 employees in its work force) has been in operation since then until the 22nd of December, 2022,” he said.

“What your erstwhile party presidential aspirant brandished before these security agencies is to bully them to give her cover to her impunity touting that she will soon come into the mainstream of power having conceded her candidature to the party presidential candidate, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu, who in her words, is slated to come into power on May 29, 2023.”

Machukwu-Ume said the ex-aspirant, who is also a lawyer, took the step despite being aware of the pending court cases, including Appeal No. CA/E/90/2021 between Dezern Nigeria Ltd and Kenuj Investment Ltd and 2 ors; High Court Enugu suit No. E/881/2021 between Dezern Nigeria Ltd &Anor vs Kenuj Investment Ltd; Suit No. E/3A/2021 between Dezern Nigeria Ltd vs Uju Ken Ohanenye; Suit N. E/52M/2021 between Legacy Paints Ltd v Uju Ken Ohanenye & Ors; and FCT High Court Suit No. FCT/HC/2389/2021 between Dezern Nigeria Ltd v Uju Ken Ohaneye & Ors.

Responding, a personal assistant to the ex-aspirant, who pleaded anonymity, described the claim as “a baseless allegation”.

“The governor of Enugu State did a reallocation to my principal, so those who are there are trespassers,” he said.
