Ex-Abia governor, Theodore Orji emerges Senator-elect

The immediate past governor of Abia state, Chief Theodore Orji, of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of the Abia Central Senatorial zone elections held on the 23rd and 24th February, 2019.

Orji polled a total of 55,461 votes beating his APC counterpart, Senator Nkechi Nwaogu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 29,860 votes, followed by the APGA candidate, Mr. Chidi Ajaegbu with 19,534 votes.

The Collation Officer for the Abia Central senatorial zone, Professor Yusuf Ndukaku who described the election as keenly contested went on to declare Orji winner and duly returned.

So far, two out of three senatorial zones elections have been announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).

Theodore Orji served as governor of Abia state between 2007 and 2015 and is the current Senator representing Abia Central senatorial zone, while Orji Uzor Kalu served as governor between 1999 and 2003 and will now represent Abia North senatorial Zone.

Meanwhile, INEC has also declared Chief Sam Onuigbo of the PDP winner of the Umuahia/Ikwuano federal constituency having secured a total vote of 30,669.

Chief Sam Onuigbo is the current member representing the Federal constituency and the Chairman House committee on Climate Change.

Mr. Ikechukwu Apugo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 23,279 while the APGA candidate MacDonald Uba got 10,312 votes.
