A 50-year-old man, Okon Michael, has been arrested by the police in Akwa Ibom State for allegedly defiling a two-year-old girl in the state.
 Michael, who hails from Mbak Ekpe in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the state was paraded yesterday along with other suspects who were arrested for various offences ranging from illegal possession of fire arms, Indian hemp, as well as armed robbery.
The state Commissioner of Police, Murtala Mani, said the suspected criminals were arrested at various locations through sustained patrol and intelligence sharing mechanism of the police.
The commissioner who spoke through the command’s Public Relations Officer, Cordelia  Nwawe, called on the public to assist the police with information that would enable them carry out their duty.  Speaking shortly with journalists at the command headquarters at Ikot-Apkanabia, Michael who confessed to crime, said the he was under the influence of an evil spirit.
‘’Even as am standing before you, I don’t know what came over me and what really happened. Someone came to my house and told me something serious was going to happen to me but I do not take it seriously,’’ the man said.
Also speaking, a 15-year-old girl, Emen Promise, who was arrested with her boy friend, Paul Ime, for allegedly being in possession of locally made pistol, said her boyfriend is a cultist.
She told journalists that she followed him to a night vigil on Friday, and that as they were returning, they met policemen who were carrying out stop and search operation.
Other suspected criminals who were arrested for offences including robbery, being in possession of substance suspected to be Indian hemp, pleaded not guilty to the crimes.
