European countries sponsoring Nigeria’s insecurity – Enang

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Ita Enang, has said European nations are behind the growing spate of insecurity in Nigeria.

He made this known while speaking to journalists during the closing ceremony of the maiden edition of the national peace Olympics 2022 in Abuja Saturday.

According to him, France is the biggest culprit among other European nations who sell arms to African governments and at the same time to the bandits.

“France sells arms which are shipped down to Nigeria and other countries like Cameroon and the country is being challenged and we don’t have peace.

“When you examine the arms and the ammunition used, you will see the signature of the country that manufactured them. We can’t keep watching these countries selling arms and yet sending us humanitarian aid,” he said.

He further proffered solutions, saying Nigeria and other countries should resolve the crisis through diplomatic means while revisiting the ECOWAS treaty.

“We should go diplomatic to confront countries in Europe who are sponsoring and selling arms to both sides in a conflict. We have to go back and revisit the ECOWAS treaty on free movement of citizens and Nigeria has to see where the country’s peace was before the treaty.”
