As part of efforts to achieving the Anambra State government’s vision in the preservation of the environment, a Batch ‘B’ Corps member in the state, Ekemini Ekong, has planted a total of 4,200 trees within the state capital and its environs.
Some of the trees planted by the corps member serving at the Anambra State College of Agriculture, Mgbakwu, in Awka North Council Area of the state included cocoanut, cashew, Neem and Ghetina.
Speaking shortly after the planting exercise, Ekong said the project is geared towards creating employment opportunities for youths, as according to him, almost all of them are economic trees.
He disclosed that he was motivated to key into the initiative as a result of the present economic situation of the country.
The Anambra State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Robinca Odigwe, described the gesture as laudable, saying the corps member has laid an indelible legacy that would not be forgotten after his service year.
