The Chairman of two-time African champions, Enyimba FC, Chief Felix Ayansi-Agwu has said the 2021 CAF Confederation Cup campaigners will have their squad strengthened when there is the need to do so.
The CAF Champions League winners in 2003 and 2003 who dropped from this year’s elite competition to the second tier league were responsible for the exit of fellow NPFL side, Rivers United from the Confederation Cup.

After a slim 1-0 victory in the first leg of the group stage playoff decided in Aba, the ‘Peoples elephants’ triumphed over Rivers United 5-4 on penalties after aggregate scores stood at 1-1.
With the hard-fought victory, Enyimba qualified for the group stage of the Confederation Cup where they are pitched in Group B with two former CAF Champions League winners, Orlando Pirates of South Africa, Algeria’s ES Setif and Libya powerhouse, Al Ahly Bengazi.
Enyimba will open their group stage campaign against Al Ahly Bengazi of Libya on Wednesday, March 10 in Aba.
Asked if there are plans to beef up his squad for the tough task at challenges ahead, the member of the NFF Executive Committee said even as Enyimba have the players who can do the job, it won’t be a bad idea to strengthen the squad at the right time.
“It depends on the opportunity you have. Of course, there is always room for improvement, if the opportunity comes.
“You want to improve depending on areas you need to strengthen. When the time comes, we may add one or two players in key positions,” he said.
He, however, said his major concern at the moment is how to get the much needed funds in time in order to prosecute the continental matches.
Ayansi, therefore, stressed that when funds are released in good time, it makes planning and execution of matches easier.
