Enyimba, Wikki Tourists triumph in double header at ATBS Bauchi

Former African champions, Enyimba FC of Aba and Wikki Tourists of Bauchi recorded victories in the week six double header of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, season decided on Monday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa stadium in Bauchi.

In the first match of the day, relegation threatened Adamawa United narrowly lost 1-2 to Enyimba FC.

Youngster Anayo Iwuala gave the ‘people’s elephants’ the lead in the 6th minute when he capitalised on a defensive mix-up to score from close range.

In the 12th minute, Enyimba themselves nearly paid a price for the same offence but Adamawa United’s Ibekwe dilly-dallied before aiming for the post and John Noble in goal for the visitors recovered in time to make the crucial save.

As Adamawa United continued to push for the much needed equaliser, they unfortunately fell further behind when Imo Obot scored his team’s second of the afternoon in the 32nd minute.

On resumption from break, Enyimba maintained their dominance but towards the end of the half, it was Adamawa United who set up camp in their goal area.

After ceaseless pressure on Enyimba’s defence, Adamawa United were awarded a penalty in the 61st minute and Aboubakar Idris stepped forward to reduce the deficit for his side.

The goal motivated the boys from Yola who continued to pile pressure on their opponents but the much needed equaliser failed to come till the final whistle.

In the second match of the evening, host Wikki Tourists proved to be the better side as they earned a well deserved 2-0 victory over Jigawa Golden Stars.

A former Flying Eagles star, Nafizi Yahaya broke the deadlock for the home side in the 39th minute when his powerful shot on the edge of the box beat Godwin Paul who was in goal for Jigawa Golden Stars.

And eleven minutes from regulation time, Promise Damala put the match beyond the visitors when he made it goal number two for the ‘Bauchi elephants’.

Week six matches will end tomorrow with a mouth watering fixture between heavyweights, Kano Pillars and Rivers United at the Ahmadu Bello stadium Kaduna
