There appears to be no respite for Kano Pillars as they suffered a humiliating 4-0 loss to Enyimba in yesterday’s 2022 NPFL Match Day 24 clash in Aba.
The first time Pillars suffered such a heavy defeat was in 2016 when they lost by the same margin to Shooting Stars in Ibadan.
Evergreen striker, Victor Mbaoma, opened the scoring in the 31st minute after stylishly finishing off Bilal Yakubu’s cut back into the box.
In the 63rd minute, Mbaoma capitalised on Pillars goalkeeper, Enaholo’s error to score the second goal for Enyimba.
As the game wore on, substitute Emeka Obioma got his name on the score sheet running onto a through-ball to lob the ball over an onrushing Enaholo to make it 3-0.
It was a perfect night for the ‘People’s Elephants’ against one of their fiercest rivals as Godwin Emmanuel made it four after GK Enaholo made an initial save from Mbaoma.
Following this loss, Kano Pillars have now suffered their heaviest defeat to Enyimba FC in the NPFL since they got promoted in 2001 and are now swimming in relegation waters in 19th position with a paltry 23 points.
Apart from Aba, it also rained goals in Uyo where title holders, Akwa United pummelled Nasarawa United 6-1 to inflict the heaviest defeat ever on the ‘solid miners’.
On their own part, the ‘Promise Keepers’ have now scored more than five goals in the NPFL for the first time in their history.
In a one way traffic situation, Ubong Friday opened the scoring for Akwa United in the 9th minute, Adam Yakubu doubled the lead in the 17th minute before Fernando Williams bagged his brace in the 22nd and 28th minute for the first half to end 4-0 in favour of the host.
On resumption, former Nigerian junior international King Osanga pulled one back for Nasarawa United in the 54th minute but new signing Babatunde Bello made it five for Akwa United in the 57th minute before Franklin sealed victory for the ‘Promise Keepers’ with the sixth in the 79th minute.
In Ibadan, Sunshine Stars ended Rivers United’s 12 game unbeaten run with a slim 1-0 victory just as Plateau United failed on the road as they also lost 1-0 to bottom of the table Heartland FC.
MFM FC’s romance with relegation waters was again solidified after losing 2-0 at home to Wikki Tourists.
