Enyimba, Insurance win NPFL rescheduled fixtures

Former African champions, Enyimba and Bendel Insurance recorded home victories in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) rescheduled week three matches played Wednesday.

After a barren first half in Aba, Enyimba benefitted from Austin Onyemachi’s 74th minute strike to inflict the second defeat on Akwa United.

The victory also moved the ‘Peoples Elephants’  to third position on the table with nine points from victories over Heartland, Lobi Stars and now Akwa United.

Akwa United who have managed only two draws against Lobi Stars and Abia Warriors are placed 17th on the table. They are now in danger of an early battle with relegation.

Meanwhile, 3SC’s unbeaten run ended in Benin City where Bendel Insurance left it late to beat the ‘Oluyole Warriors’ 1-0.

3SC were on the verge of recording another draw on the road but Michael Enaruna scored in the fourth minute of second half added time to hand the ‘Benin Arsenals’ the maximum points.

While the victory handed Insurance their first win of the season, it ended 3SC’s unbeaten run.

It will be recalled that after their 1-1 draw in the opening match at Nasarawa United, 3SC returned home and were forced to another 1-1 draw by Plateau United.

However, they picked their first win of the season in the 1-0 victory over embattled Heartland in week three in Ibadan.

The remaining week three tie between title holders Rangers and Bayelsa United will be played today in Enugu.
