Enyimba International will renew their rivalry with South Africa’s Orlando Pirates after being drawn in the Confederation Cup Group A alongside Algeria’s Entente Setif and Libya’s Ahli Benghazi.
It will be recalled that Enyimba secured qualification by defeating Rivers United at the Adokie Amiesimeka Stadium in Port Harcourt after a penalty shootout.
The group-stage matches are due to begin next month with the top two in each group progressing to the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, the state Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has sent a message of congratulations to the players and management of Enyimba following their qualification.
The Governor who expressed his delight at the victory especially with the dedication and tenacity shown by the players urged the team to see the victory as the needed tonic to prepare even harder for the group stages of the highly competitive continental tournament by going all out to win the competition.
According to the governor, sports remains a key factor that not only provides entertainment and relaxation to people but has become a powerful tool for economic advancement.
“The only way the players and management of Enyimba FC can repay the huge investments of the government and people of Abia State in the club is to work hard and ensure total victory in the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup,” he said.
