Nigeria’s quest in winning the 2021 CAF Confederation Cup got a boost on Wednesday after the country’s sole representative, Enyimba FC of Aba, defeated Orlando Pirates of South Africa to qualify for the quarter-final of the second Africa league cup
Enyimba left it late in a match they needed nothing short of a win to qualify after Cyril Olisema scored a late goal in the 95th minute of the encounter to give Enyimba a 1-0 win over the Pirates.
Enyimba’s qualification was made easier after ES Setif of Algeria defeated Al Ahly Benghazi of Libya 1-0 in Algeria same Wednesday.
Prior to the last Group A matches, Orlando Pirates was topping the group with 9 points followed by Ahly Benghazi had 7, Enyimba had 6 while Setif had 5 points.
However, with Enyimba defeating Pirates 1-0, same scoreline Setif had against Ahly Benghazi, Enyimba Qualified as Group leaders followed by Pirates even though they have same points however, Enyimba have goal difference of -2 while Pirates have -3.
Enyimba was without suspended captain and leading scorer Augustine Oladapo and his absence was hugely auspicious.
