The High Commissioner of Tanzania to Nigeria, Dr Benson Alfred Bana, has urged schools to educate students on the need for pan-Africanism.

Dr Bana said this would help students appreciate the African spirit and the efforts of past African leaders in fostering unity and oneness in the continent.

The high commissioner, who spoke when he received members of the Pan African Club of Anglican Girls Grammar School, Abuja at the Tanzania High Commission Chancery in Abuja, said the pan-African philosophy must be kept alive with the involvement of students.

“I thank you for the initiative to keep the pan-African philosophy alive. We will continue to give you all the support to keep the African vision in the Pan African Club alive. We will do whatever it takes to support the noble cause,” he stated.

Members of the club are trained on international politics by emulating the African Union setting at the club.

One of the students, Adebalogun Faridah, who also stands as the Chairperson of the African Union, said pan-Africanism was important as it promotes unity for better coexistence and livelihood.

She said the President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, who is the only female president in Africa motivated her to strive to be the best in her endeavours.

She said the school Pan African Club is geared towards empowering students with the necessary knowledge to compete favourably with their African counterparts.

The teacher that led the students, Ms Amen Osawe, said the Pan African Club was at the chancery to lend their voice to girl child education and equality.

She called for networking among African students whereby they can share ideas on the unity and progress of the continent.
