There may be no end to the contention over land deals as the people of Umuanekeode village of Ibagwa Nike community in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State have dissociated themselves from the activities of certain villagers, who allegedly used the name of the village to swindle unsuspecting people in questionable land deals.
The leaders of the village alleged that the individuals operate like outlaws as they violated court orders.
In a public notice copied to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and the Commissioner of Police signed by heads of the various families in the village, including Chief Anike Edwin Okonkwo, Chief Calistus Okolo, Elder Eze Mbaeke, Agbo Moses, High Chief Joseph Mbannanchi and High Chief Charles Ede, the villagers dissociated themselves from the activities of such individuals led by one Ikechukwu Ngwu, insisting that Ibagwa Nike community under the leadership of the traditional ruler, Igwe Emmanuel Ugwu, remains one and indivisible.
The villagers said the activities of the deviants had been banned by the order of perpetual injunction delivered in Suit No E/337/2016 dated 19th July, 2017.
South East Trust, however, reports that in a swift reaction, the alleged leader of the dissident group, Ikechukwu Ngwu, denied the allegations against him, especially of causing disharmony in the village and engaging in fraudulent land transactions.
