The Enugu State Executive Council has approved the sack of 16 out of the 17 local government education secretaries in the state alongside the General Manager of the state Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, for poor performance.
The state also set machinery in motion for the recruitment of 2000 teachers to boost primary education.
The state Commissioner for Information, Dr. Godwin Udeuhele, made this known while briefing newsmen yesterday.
The sack of the council secretaries followed a ratification of the recommendation of a probe panel on the State Universal Basic Education Board.
The panel, it was gathered had recommended the sack of education secretaries of the 16 local council areas in the state except that of Awgu local government who was appointed in June.
Udeuhele said the sack was necessary to inject new blood into the administration.
“The termination of the appointments of local government education secretaries with the exception of that of Awgu is to enhance and strengthen development of basic education in the state,” he said.
He said the officers were involved in practices that were retarding the desired growth in the basic education system.
