Rangers International have made it two wins out of two matches at their home ground, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium as they thrashed visiting Gombe United 4-1 in their matchday 18 fixture of the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier League Football (NPFL) Saturday.

The Flying Antelopes dominated their visitors in a show of elegance as they continued their campaign for a continental ticket, winning their second game at the Cathedral following a 2-0 victory against Shooting Stars on the newly refurbished field.

Godwin Obaje gave the home team a 2-1 lead with two goals in the 20th and 38th minutes, the second coming from a penalty kick. He has now scored 70 NPFL career goals.

Gombe United had cancelled out the first goal with Wasiu Alalde.

With goals from Nwaodu Chukwudi and Augustine Kelechukwu,  Rangers won both of their first games at the Cathedral in front of their boisterous fans.

Despite the victory, the seven-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions remained unmoved on the log as they retained their 9th position with 25 points from 18 matches.

In other results, at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia Warriors defeated Doma United 3-0 who have now conceded three goals in a match for the second time in their NPFL history with both matches in the 2023/24 NPFL.

Experienced defender, Anaemena Ifeanyi had opened the scoring from the penalty spot just before the first half ended. It was his third goal of the season- all from the penalty spot.

In the 49th minute, Megwo Sunday finished well from Onu Emmanuel’s delightful pass to increase the lead and in the 97th minute, Ojonugwa Adejoh ensured all three points were safe in the bag.

Elsewhere, Plateau United pipped champions Enyimba FC 1-0 in Jos.

Yakubu Adams had put the hosts ahead through a sublime cross from Nenrot Silas in the 8th minute and set the tone for an eventful game.

Enyimba who are missing their coach, Finidi George who is on national duty with the Super Eagles put everything forward but left Jos empty.

The last game of the day saw Sunshine and Niger Tornadoes encounter ending in a barren draw as the visitors put up a brave fight to earn another road point.
