Two ladies have been arrested while allegedly attempting to abduct a little child from a Nursery/Primary in Enugu state.

According to the police, they are Nkeiruka Odo of Imilike Agu in Udenu local government area of Enugu state and Precious Chukwuemeka Chinyere of Aguleri Anambra state.

The state police command spokesman, SP Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday in Enugu said the suspects were picked by security operatives yesterday “while trying to abduct a little child coming out from a certain Nursery/primary school located at Imilike Ani in Udenu of Enugu state.”

Amaraizu said their arrest by the police operatives who acted swiftly became possible following intelligence information gathered about the syndicate.

He added that since the arrest, the suspects had revealed how they carried out abduction of a four-year-old school boy identified as one Ugwu Levi Chiagozie from another Nusery/Primary school also located at Imilike Ani in Udenu local government area of Enugu state on January 18, after which they handed over their victim to a certain nurse in Anambra state for sale.

He said that items recovered from the suspects included little children’s wears, biscuits, chin-chin, candies and other items which allegedly could be used to entice little children.

Amaraizu further said the suspects are currently helping the police operatives of the command in their investigations which have commenced in full scale.

However, the state police has advised members of the public, particularly parents/guardians, to always exercise vigilance and be security conscious on their children/wards to “avoid falling into the antics of these mischief-makers who are in the habit of enticing children from churches and gatherings with a view to abducting/stealing them.”

The command further urged members of the public to report promptly about any suspicious movement  around their environment to the state police command  through the following distress call numbers: 08032003702,08075390883,08086671202 and 08098880172 or through the command social media platform of Nigeriapoliceforceenugustatecommand on facebook and @PoliceNg_Enugu or [email protected] on email.
