Enoh targets Nigeria’s better performance ahead 2024 Olympic, Africa Games

In a bid to improve the country’s performances at international sports competitions, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh has organized a retreat to address some of the factors responsible for the poor performance of Nigerian athletes

During his speech in Abuja yesterday, Enoh stressed the importance of assessing training methods, athlete conduct, anti-doping education, and the role of National Sports Federations. He believes these factors are crucial for achieving success in the 2024 Africa Games and the upcoming Olympic/Paralympic Games in Paris.

“I would like to commend my resource persons who have been working assiduously behind the scene towards Nigeria’s preparation and participation to podium success. I have implicit confidence in the capability of the team to make this retreat meaningful,” the Minister said.

Enoh mentioned that the Ministry of Sports Development will tackle various issues during the retreat. These include the need for a structured process to enhance athlete performance, promoting professionalism among sports administrators, athletes, and support personnel, addressing funding challenges and timely release of funds, improving athletes’ preparation with effective training programs, emphasizing anti-doping education, and implementing a scientific approach to training.

He concluded that all monitoring activities are to be reported to his office on a regular basis.
