Enoh demands victory as welcome gift from Super Eagles

The Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, has demanded a resounding victory over Sao Tome and Principe as his welcome gift from the Super Eagles.

The three-time African champions are scheduled to trade tackles with Sao Tome and Principe in a dead rubber 2024 AFCON qualifier this weekend at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Enoh made the demand at the meeting he held with the leadership of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), to find solutions to the lingering issues surrounding the status of the contract with the Super Eagles Coach ahead of the last AFCON qualifying match.

He said “Even though we are home and dry in the qualifying series, I will be excited if the Super Eagles can beat São Tomé and Principe for the generality of Nigerians, as we celebrate this new phase of our sports”.

It was at the meeting that both the Ministry of Sports and the Nigeria Football federation (NFF) agreed to extend the contract of Jose Peseiro as the Head Coach of the Super Eagles till January 2024.

The NFF also used the opportunity to inform the minister that the Portuguese gaffer had accepted a salary cut for the duration of the extended contract.

The meeting which was held in Abuja had in attendance, the President of the NFF, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, 1st Vice President, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi and Legal Counsel Barr. Okey Obi.
