Former U-23 star, Idahor slumped and died on the football pitch on March 6th 2010 while playing in a match between his team AL-Merrikh and Al-Amal in the Sudanese League.

At the lying-in state at the Dr. Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, the casket containing the remains of the late Idahor was brought in at about 11:06am.

A mock football match was played between members of his former team, the Igbino Football Club where he started his football career.

In an address, Edo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Anita Evbuomwan described the day as a black day in the history of football development for Nigeria in general and Edo State in particular.

Miss Evbuomwan who was represented by the Director of Sports in the state, Mr. Charles Okundaye said, “It is disheartening to note that such a creative and active footballer ended his life after slumping on the field of play.’

“There is no doubt that Al-Merrikh Football Club of Sudan has lost one of its best attackers.  The vacuum created by the untimely death of late Endurance Idahor will be very difficult to fill. Nigeria has lost a very quiet, organized, respectful, dedicated and result-oriented footballer.” She said.

President of Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Sanni Lulu who was represented by the Chairman Ekiti Football Association, Chief Taiwo Odebunmi said the death of Endurance Idahor has robbed Nigeria of another promising star.

“Indeed, we are yet to get over the tremendous shock of receiving the sad news of the death of the young man who always showed so much commitment on the field of play at both club and National level.”

‘Idahor’s attributes and virtues as a serious-minded professional athlete who has faith in his ability was never in doubt. He had drive, perserance and inventiveness and was lively and friendly with all he met”. He said.
