The police command in Kano has paraded 31 suspects over alleged involvement in the crisis that characterized the #ENDSARS protest at Sabongari area of the state capital last week.

Four persons were reportedly killed and many others injured, while shops and residential areas were looted and some set ablaze by the hoodlums that hijacked the protest around Sarkin Yaki road.

The spokesman of the command, DSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa who paraded the suspects on behalf of the state commissioner of Police, Habu A. Sani said the suspects were arrested for “looting, vandalizing and malicious damage to public and private properties.”

He explained that 38 shops including Galaxy, a multi-million naira shopping mall, and a branch of Chicken Republic confectionery along airport road were looted and vandalized by the hoodlums.

He explained that 59 suspects were arrested within the period, out of which “31)suspects are for looting, vandalism and malicious damage of properties”.

Twenty-eight other suspects were arrested for other crimes within #EndSARS Protest period and are under investigation.

Seven vehicles, one tricycle and two motorcycles were burnt, eight vehicles vandalised, 38 shops looted and vandalised.

He said swift and timely deployments of security personnel by the Commissioner of Police Kano State Command restore normalcy in the area and arrest the perpetrators of these heinous acts.

Some of the items recovered from the suspects include household and office equipment, motorcycles, refrigerators and many other items including foodstuff.
