The Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution set up to investigate cases of brutality and human rights violations committed by operatives of the dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) will today (Monday) hold its inaugural sitting at Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) Building in Ikoyi.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will swear-in members of the panel before the inaugural sitting.
The Chairman of the Panel, Justice Doris Okuwobi (rtd), had on Saturday met with Governor Sanwo-Olu ahead of the swearing-in ceremony.
Sanwo-Olu at the end of the meeting said it was necessary to intimate the panel chairman on new developments and expectations of the government.
He disclosed that the membership slot reserved for the youth had been increased to two, so as to ensure that young people, who are mostly victims of SARS brutality, have a strong voice.
“We expect members of the public who have complaints against SARS operatives to approach the panel with their claims,” he said.
