#EndSARS: It will take long time to rebuild Lagos – Sanwo-Olu

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has said it will take a long time to rebuild the infrastructure damaged in the state during the October 2020 #EndSARS protest.

Governor Sanwo-Olu said this on Thursday after a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The governor said the state government had already started the process of rebuilding  from ‘low hanging’ corner by offering support to small and medium sized businesses caught up in violence during the period.

He assured that the administration was committed to restoring the state to its previous bustling status as the country’s economic nerve centre.

The governor, however, explained that it would require creativity to pool resources from all possible angles and sources to achieve its objectives.

“It’s also some of the things I discussed with Mr President. It’s work in progress.

“To take something down, it takes one day, to rebuild, it takes 10 years. It’s a journey, not a destination.

“And so it’s going to take a while. We are carefully taking a proper study to know what we need to do, taking our time to get it right but we’ve started something,” he added.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, while speaking on the state government’s administrative plan to manage the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, said more attention is being given to providing more oxygen to meet the need of victims of the disease who are in the critical category.

The governor, who voiced anxiety at the nature of the new wave, said it had increased the infection and death rates.

Sanwo-Olu, who said his administration had also increased the risk communication level and further strengthened the reach of grassroots campaign and enlightenment, charged all Nigerians to begin to take responsibility for their conducts.

He tasked all to pay serious attention to all the protocols and guidelines already issued, stressing that signs out there leave no room for doubts about the existence of COVID-19.

The governor, while commenting on his meeting with President Buhari, said: “The president took very detailed notes; I was actually very happy.

“He gave me assurances that some of the points I have raised that I will be seeing some call-ups or follow-ups either through the Chief of Staff or through some of the agencies of the federal government. It was a very useful meeting.”
