#EndSARS: Families of slain Police Officers get N60m compensation in Lagos

Sanwo-Oluannounced scholarship awards to children of the slain officers up to university level

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu through the State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) on Thursday compensated families of the six police officers that were killed in Lagos State during the violence that trailed the recent EndSARS protests as each got N10 million.

The Governor made the presentation of the cheques to wives and children of the slain officers at the 14th Town Hall meeting on security in fulfillment of the promise earlier made by the state government during a meeting with police officers at the State Police Command.

The late police officers lynched are; Yaro Edward, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP); Inspector Ayodeji Erinfolami, Inspector Samsom Ehibor, Inspector Aderibigbe Adegbenro, Inspector Igoche Cornelius and Sergeant Bejide Abiodun.

Governor Sanwo-Olu as part of his promise also announced scholarship awards to children of the slain officers up to the university level.

While he described the slain officers as ‘heroes,’ who sacrificed their lives to secure lives and properties in the state.

The compensation according to him was the state government’s modest reward for their gallantry, saying the gesture would help the families to heal from their losses.

The yearly town hall meeting themed ‘Lagos Security: Resilience in the Face of Adversity’ was organized by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).

The governor who also received report of security activities across the State in the last 12 months from Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, commended the downward trend observed in crimes, such as kidnapping and armed robbery in the last one year.

According to him, security would remain a top priority for his government, disclosing that Lagos was at the verge of bridging the technological and logistical gap in its security architecture before violence broke out following the EndSARS protest.

Beneficiaries of the compensation appreciated the governor’s gesture, which they said had not only wiped off their tears but has also reassured them of a better future.
