As the Kaduna State Government continues with the road component of its Urban Renewal Projects (URP), residents of Tudun Nupawa in Kaduna Metropolis are appealing for the revamping of Ira Road.
Arewa Trust gathered that the road that leads to Bakin Dogo and other major markets in the state has been in dilapidated state for many years, thereby subjecting motorists and residents to hardship.
During a visit, Arewa Trust observed that the road is now muddy, especially after rainfall, since most portions have been washed away. While commuters meandered through potholes of the road, residents said they dealt with dust and floods during harmattan and rainy seasons respectively.
The community head of Bakin Dogo, Sarki Salihu Ahmad, said the road last got a facelift in 2006 by a Good Samaritan, who renovated it with gravel, adding that the road was now being threatened by erosion.
Ahmad said, “The last repair was done by an individual, Moses Maryam. He volunteered without collecting a dime from the community. Though repair was also done by the local government, but that was in 2000, and since then we have been trying our best to get the attention of successive governments to come to our aid.
While praising Gov. El-Rufai for fixing other roads in the community, he urged him to consider Ira Road because it was one of the busy roads in the metropolis.
According to him, “During election campaigns, we get promises to fix the road, but once they get elected, the promises will not be fulfilled. Some time ago, I was told that some people came to survey the road to fix it but it is now two years and there are no changes still.”
