The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN has urged traders to embrace the eNaira as a means of transaction that is safe and efficient.

The apex bank, which disclosed this yesterday during a sensitisation programme at Kairo market, a popular textile market in Oshodi, Lagos, said that the digital currency also promotes financial inclusion, efficiency, reliability and safety.

CBN Branch Controller, Lagos, Mr Bariboloka Koyor expressed satisfaction at the adoption of the initiative by the traders, especially the commitment by the leadership of the market association to embark on a shop to shop campaign in order to onboard more users.

An expert on agency banking, Dr Aminu Bizi, said the enaira is safer compared to other digital currencies and it is without any hidden charges.

“There are a lot of benefits to traders. It is faster than any other, there is no fraud in transactions as it is 99.99% secured. It is also easy to use when compared to others. They are also assured of their exact money as there is no hidden deduction,” he said.

Dr Bizi, who is the consultant of the apex bank on the sensitization programme, stressed that the campaign will be taken to other markets across the country.

The Secretary General of market men and women in Oshodi, Obinna Umeh, said the eNaira will put an end to a lot of disputes that arise as a result of failed transactions in the market.

He urged the CBN to create more awareness and educate the traders on the benefits of digital currency.
