The coast is finally clear for Emirates Airlines to resume flights to Nigeria as the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Thursday, resumed issuance of visas to Nigeria.

Daily Trust reports that the commencement of issuance of visa by the UAE government is the condition given by the federal government to give approval to Emirates, the Dubai-based carrier, to resume flights.

It would be recalled that the federal government on Monday, September 21, banned Emirates from operating to Nigeria after it resumed flights to Lagos and Abuja on September 7 and 9.

Our correspondent reports that following the ban, the UAE authorities and the airline’s management initiated talks with the government to lift the ban as Nigeria is one of the major markets of Emirates.

On Wednesday, September 30, the federal government lifted the ban based on the undertaking by the authorities of the United Arabs Emirates (UAE).

But the airline could not resume as the UAE government was yet to commence issuance of visas to Nigeria.

But the coast became clear, yesterday, when the UAE fulfilled the condition as confirmed by the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika on his twitter handle.

Already, VFS global, the authorised UAE visa handler, has communicated to stakeholders on the development.

Prospective applicants were, however, required to provide documents such as valid return ticket, hotel booking or sufficient proof of accommodation address, negative PCR test obtained within a 96-hour window prior to departure and valid health insurance covering full duration of stay in the UAE.
