The Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II has described the report that placed North-west region in the country as the highest with stunted growth children as worrisome.
The emir therefore tasked community leaders in the region to put their heds together to address the menace.
Represented by the District Head of Nassarawa, Alhaji Nasiru Ado Bayero, the emir made the disclosure in Nassarawa Local Government area of the state during public sensitization training on nutrition, routine immunization and safe motherhood organized for community leaders organized by Kano Emirate Council Committee on Health (KECCoH) in partnership with development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC).
According to him, the stunted growth experienced was due to lack of good nutrition, exclusive breast feeding and other related issues affecting children below five years adding that such deficiencies had resulted to the death of many children across the region.
The Emir further stated that though recent reports have indicated an improvement in the rate of children that completed the routine immunization, there was a need for parents and all stakeholders to do more.
He emphasized the need for public support on routine immunization as a measure of protecting their children against child killer diseases.
Addressing the participant during the training, Hajiya Jummai Bello of dRPC, highlighted the advantages of effective utilization of crops easily accessed within the community for nutritional value extraction.
