The Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, yesterday in Zaria asked the residents of the Emirate and other parts of Nigeria to forgive his wrongs as age is no longer on his side.
In an emotion-laden voice during a prayer session to mark his 42nd anniversary as emir, the traditional ruler said it was rare, not only in Nigeria but the world over, for a ruler to spend such years in power.
“I would like to start by thanking Allah. When I assumed the mantle of leadership of this great emirate, I was only 39. Today, I am celebrating 42nd anniversary on the throne. This is a rare privilege.
“For this, I want to seek your forgiveness for any wrong that I might have done to you,” the emir said.
Kaduna State deputy governor Yusuf Barnabas Bala Bantex, who represented Governor Nasir el-Rufa’i, urged the emir to write a memoir about his life, as there were a lot to learn from him.
