Amidst fanfare and special durbar, the emir of Rano in Kano State, Alhaji Kabir Muhammad Inuwa, on Friday, returned to his palace after a two-day visit to Sokoto and Gwandu emirs.

The visit is part of the tradition for all newly appointed emirs in the Sokoto caliphate to visit the palace of the Sultan in Sokoto and that of emir of Gwandu in Gwandu, in present day Kebbi State to pay allegiance and ask for their blessing.

Kabir ascended Rano throne after the death of his predecessor and former emir, Alhaji Tafida Abubakar Ila, who died in May, 2020.

The emir who held a special durbar session from the main entrance of Rano, proceeded to the old palace in the ancient city where he prayed for former emirs before he later arrived at his main palace.

Speaking during the durbar in his palace, the emir said he was full of joy with the event he described as historical.

He said: “I’m full of joy and grateful for having a successful visit to Sokoto, Gwandu and Daura emirates where I paid homage to the emirs.

“I visited the Sultan, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, in his palace in Sokoto where we were humbly received by him.

“We also visited the emir of Gwandu, Alhaji Muhammadu Iliyasu Bashar, and he and his people equally received us and reiterated the worth of Rano emirate in the caliphate.

“I want to also thank the emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar, for his kind and fatherly support to this emirate, being one of the seven and the youngest of the Bayajidda (former emir of Daura) sons, who later became the present day seven Hausa states.

“He is always proud of us and we are grateful.

“This is a very historical day that we can’t forget,” he said.

The emir then called on the people of the emirate to continue to support the effort of President Muhammadu Buhari in maintaining Nigeria’s unity as one country.

He also thanked the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, for supporting and uplifting the status of the emirate to first class position.

District and village heads from all the 10 Local Government Areas under the emirate participated in the special durbar to welcome the new emir.

Daily Trust recalled that Rano is one of the four emirates upgraded by Governor Ganduje in Kano state to first class position in 2019.
