Emir of Kontagora suspends chief over misconduct

The Kontagora Emirate Council in Niger State has suspended the Iyan Kontagora, Shehu Baba, one of the key traditional title holders in the palace of the Sarkin Sudan (Emir of Kontagora), over misconduct.

City & Crime gathered that the holder of the Iyan Kontagora title serves as an adviser to the Sarkin Sudan.

The emirate council, in the suspension letter signed by its secretary, Samaila Muhammad Fodio, which was obtained by our correspondent, said the suspension was as a result of acts of misconduct.

The letter reads in part: “I am directed by the Kontagora Emirate Council to notify you of your suspension as Iyan Kontagora till further notice. The suspension takes effect from April 6, 2022. Your suspension as Iyan Kontagora was caused by your acts of misconduct.

“The investigating committee shall in due course invite you to defend the allegation, if need be. The emirate council deems it highly necessary to inform you to henceforth stop parading yourself as Iyan Kontagora.”
