The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has turbaned Mansur Mukhtar, a former Minister of Finance, as a kingmaker.
He also turbaned Bashir Mahe Bashir as the seventh Walin Kano. He succeeded his father, Mahe Bashir Wali, who is still alive but recently resigned his position due to old age and health condition.

Mukhtar, who is the current Vice President of the Islamic Development Bank, is the ninth Sarkin Bai since the Jihad of Usman Danfodio to present history of Kano emirate.
His father, before his death, was the longest-serving member of the Kano Emirate Council, since the establishment of the emirate in the 19th century.
He served for 63 years as district head, councillor and kingmaker before he died at the age of 95.
Speaking to Daily Trust, the first wife to the new Sarkin Bai, Hadiza Mansur, pray for God’s guidance.
“Today is historic in our lives. We pray that this position God has taken him to, He should give him the opportunity to deliver and guide him accordingly. We wish all and sundry who came to identify with us safe journey to their various destinations.”
The turbaning ceremony got in attendance traditional, political and community leaders from and across emirates within and outside Kano state.
