The Emir of Gombe, Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, has enrolled 1,500 orphans and children of less privilege in primary schools, to assist them get access to qualitative education.

They bring to 3,000  the total number of orphans and children of less priviledge being sponsored by the emir through his foundation, the Shehu Usman Abubakar Foundation.

Presenting gifts and learning materials to the orphans at a ceremony held at the Emir’s palace in Gombe, the emir said the gesture was to help the children and reduce the emotional stress they have been going through after losing their parents.

He said the second batch was to fulfill the promised he made last year, during the flagged off of first batch of the scheme.

The emir called on other members of the public, especially the wealth to do in the society, to also contribute in assisting the orphans, disables and other less previledge in the state.

Gombe deputy governor,  Charles Iliya, commended the emir for taking responsibility of the 3000 children, as well as distribution of food and clothes to the needy.
