The Emir of Dutse, Jigawa State, Dr Nuhu Muhammad Sanusi, has challenged faculties of education in tertiary institutions to restructure their curriculum towards producing teachers that would mould quality students.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a three-day conference organised by the Faculty of Education, Federal University Dutse (FUD), the emir, who was represented by the District Head of Kiyawa, Alhaji Adamu Aliyu Kiyawa, attributed the decline in education to poor teaching and learning, despite the existence of so many academics.

The conference with the theme, “Delivering Quality Education amidst COVID-19 Pandemic and Beyond: Issues, Challenges and Solutions.” according to the organisers, was part of the efforts aimed at identifying challenges hindering quality education delivery in Nigeria.

The vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. Abdulkarim Sabo Mohammed, in his address, said the university was ready to partner with relevant authorities to move teaching and learning forward in the institution.

The Dean of Education at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Prof. Haladu Bayero, advocated overhauling of the Nigerian teacher education curriculum and the model of implementation to be in alignment with what it takes to deploy technology in the 21st-century teaching and learning.
