The Emir of Dutse, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Nuhu Muhammadu Sanusi, has lauded Media Trust Limited, publishers of Daily Trust, Daily Trust on Saturday, Daily Trust on Sunday, Aminiya, Tambari and Teen Trust, for showing unprecedented commitment to the development of golf in Nigeria.

The avid golfer who was among the dignitaries who teed-off the grand finale of the Daily Trust President Muhammadu Buhari Golf Cup yesterday at the IBB Golf Club in Abuja, said the media outfit deserved commendation.

He said, “I want to thank you all for coming to celebrate the President’s Cup with us. I think this is the maiden cup and sponsored by Daily Trust newspaper.

“I believe Daily Trust have done their best to promote golf in this country. I think we should acknowledge the effort of Daily Trust in promoting golf in this country.

“They have a weekly column which they use in promoting golf and now they are sponsoring the President’s Cup which I think Insah Allah will continue into the future.

“I want to say our gratitude to Daily Trust first for making us to come together as golfers throughout the federation, to come and know one another and play the game of golf.

“I have always said we need to do more to promote golf in Nigeria because golf is the only game that cuts across every segment of the society.”

Emir Sanusi who spoke after he performed the ceremonial tee-off also gave fatherly advice as he charged those taking part in the tournament to play by the rules.

“And for those who are participating, I want to say, do play a game, don’t cheat. Golf is for honourable people. If you don’t win, you have not won. Golf is a game that you win today, you lose tomorrow.

“It is like any other aspect of life. So play reasonable golf and enjoy your day. May the blessing of God Almighty be with us all,” he said.
